Butterwell Barn

Converted from an ancient barn and sheltered by trees, just the old farmhouse nearby - Butterwell Barn is a unique, romantic moorland retreat, surprisingly close to Cornwall's beautiful north coast. We offer peace, comfort and a friendly welcome, lovely views, sunsets and walks, wooden beams below a vaulted ceiling, a cosy stove and plenty of books and games. There is a wide safe garden with a large lawn and tall trees from which hang a hammock and a swing. It is well away from traffic, a green space for children to play and for peaceful enjoyment. Butterwell is a no-smoking zone, children are very welcome here and they love to return.

Sleeping accommodation consists of a larger bedroom with an antique brass double bed (with new slatted wooden base and mattress) and a second smaller bedroom, spacious as a single but with a separate under-bed for twin beds when needed or a second double. The wooden cot can be placed in either room but only with a single bed in the smaller.

Wild seas and cream teas: Within a few miles are the pretty coastal villages of Tintagel, Boscastle and Port Isaac, with abundant fresh seafood and Cornish cream teas. Local beaches are Trebarwith Strand, surfers' delight with a long stretch of sand at low tide and Bossinney Haven, a more sheltered cove with clear blue water and cliffs which host nesting fulmar, jackdaw and house martin in the spring and summer. Raven, kestrel and peregrine falcon also nest on this stretch of coast. Crackington Haven, which has surfing, swimming and paddling, a wide stretch of sand that is ideal for sand castles or beach games, rockpools and fascinating geology is also within 20 minutes drive. The coastal footpath which enwraps Cornwall is a wonderful resource for walks at all times of year - the best stretches are here!
